Using realistic images and having an undeniable talent for painting, John Pugh, creates incredible optical illusions that keep you second-guessing.  As the artist states about his work, “ I have found that the “language” of life-size illusions allow me to communicate with a very large audience. It seems almost universal that people take delight in being visually tricked. Once...

French fashion photographer Guy Bourdin (b. 1928 - d. 1991) was one of the first fashion photographers to create a complex narrative and then capture the overpowering mood of a single moment, whether it was provocative, exotic, surrealistic, or even sinister. Influenced by his mentor Man Ray, surrealist painters Magritte and Balthaus, and filmmaker Luis Buñuel, Bourdin’s work similarly...

We don’t need to remind you: we lost a legend in Jean Giraud, aka Moebius this past weekend, at the age of 73. The French illustrator was famous and widely known for his work on the comics Blueberry and Silver Surfer, as well as his work with Heavy Metal, but we came across some stunning black and white illustrations this morning that we thought were beautiful in their simplicity

We turn 18 this year. Old enough to join the army, vote, serve on a jury, go to the prom, and, we even think we can adopt a child now. To celebrate, Copro Gallery in Santa Monica will be hosting the exhibition, Juxtapoz Turns 18, featuring works from a group of artists who have been featured in our pages over the past 18 years, including Retna, Todd Schorr, Shepard Fairey, Mark Ryden, Jeremy...

We just showed you a couple of love inspired murals from D*Face, but it looks like the artist was a bit busier than we initially thought. While in New York, it looks like he pulled a hat trick of murals with a third work called “Grim Tales” starring the Grim Reaper. Take a look at his other two murals here, and check out this third one in our gallery.

New York City is now the home of this latest mural from D*Face curated by Corey Helford Gallery. The piece was completed in announcement from the Corey Helford Gallery of its East Coast debut at SCOPE in New York. London-based sculptor D*Face merged a bright color palate with comic-like imagery for this large scale painting. Also included in the collection of new works from the gallery are...

OBEY GIANT‘s Shepard Fairey now faces possible jail time of up to 6 months in the embarrassing saga surrounding his Obama “Hope” poster. While the case pertaining to the copyright infringement protection of an Associated Press-owned photograph of Obama–the very image Fairey admittedly artistically reused in the Hope campaign–was settled last year behind closed doors, the federal courts have...

After getting a look at some of his work two day ago, further images have surfaced of French humanitarian and artist JR’s magnificent contributions to the landscape of Los Angeles. Situated in the heart of downtown, the mural is a large-scale work that seems to swallow up any and all eyes that set foot in its periphery. JR has once again crafted a work that seems to look right through you.

Since October of last year, Brooklyn-based art duo FAILE has held claim to the artwork on the Tony Goldman Graffiti Wall at Bowery & Houston in New York City. The art on the famed wall is soon to belong to a new name, as Los Angeles artist RETNA (whose real name is Marquis Lewis) has begun work on a piece based on the lyrical themes from a Raekwon song.
